The work of Heron’s Eye Co-Founder, photographer and poet, Sandy Long will be featured at the Union Digital Gallery in the exhibit “Impermanence: The Transitory Nature of Experience,” from October 30th and continuing through November 30th, at 7 Erie Avenue, in Narrowsburg, New York.
The multi-sensory digital experience will be interwoven with trance music by composer and recording artist, Willow Wynd (Marlaina Donato), and presented on a sixteen-foot HD media wall.
“There is an unsettling and yet compelling quality to expressions of impermanence,” says Long. “We are born into physical bodies through which existence is experienced. Form eventually fades, whether tree or human, building or bridge, feather or fur. In the inevitable decline and ultimate relinquishing lie both desolation and beauty.”
Viewers may be startled or disturbed, but will ideally engage with the provocative questions raised.
Long was the first artist-in-residence at Shenandoah National Park and completed an artist’s residency at the invitation of the Delaware Highlands Conservancy in 2015.
“Impermanence” will also feature Donato’s mystical mélange of music, ranging from semi-classical piano to visionary moodscapes and more.
“Impermanence is the only constant in this life, but I believe it’s the doorway to the Unlimited,” says Donato. “Where does the flame go after the candle blows itself out? It becomes something else. As a musician, many of my recordings are in the moment, never to be played again, the muse sweeping through. In this way, impermanence is a gift and a tangible power. I think William Blake has the key to everything when he writes, ‘He who kisses the joy as it flies lives in eternity’s sunrise.’”
Opening Event
An opening event for Impermanence will run from 5:00 to 7:30 pm on Saturday, October 30th with an outdoor reception warmed by a fire on the patio of the Narrowsburg Union and embellished with Donato’s music.
