It can be challenging for a small land trust to navigate the process of applying for federal Forest Legacy Program funds. Heron’s Eye worked with the U.S. Forest Service, state agencies and the Delaware Highlands Conservancy to develop A Land Trust’s Guide to Partnering with the Forest Legacy Program, which provides:
- A description of the application and acquisition process.
- Helpful tips for more effectively navigating each phase.
- An exploration of the roles that a land trust can play.
The Forest Legacy partner guide has become a well-used resource, according to Deirdre Raimo, Northeast Area Forest Legacy Program Manager.
As a follow-up, Heron’s Eye participated in an instructional online webinar hosted by the Land Trust Alliance and the U.S. Forest Service Northeast Area.
